Late Arrival and Early Dismissal Policy
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is extremely important that your child maximize his/her educational experience at Abney Elementary. You can help us achieve this goal by having your child at school on time each day. Punctual arrival assures all students receive maximum uninterrupted instructional time. Students who arrive after 8:20 a.m. will be counted tardy and will be required to sign in at the front office with an adult.
In an effort to encourage punctuality, we will be offering the following :
- Classroom incentives-Individual classes will earn awards based on a goal set by the teacher when the class has accumulated a number of tardy free days!
- Grade level competition-Each grade level will compete against each other each week for special recognition and a special surprise! A bulletin board will track the progress of the school. Feel free to check it out!
- Punctual Party-Students who are tardy free each quarter will attend the quarterly “Punctual Party.”
- Water Day-This is a very special day that will be held at the end of the year! Students who have been on time EVERY DAY for the entire 08-09 school year will be invited to attend this fun filled day!
In an effort to maintain effective communication between the administration and the parents and/or guardians , the following procedure will be in place:
- If a student is tardy 3 times in a 9 week period: A phone call will be placed to the parents and/or guardians by the administration.
- If a student is tardy 5 times in a 9 week period: A conference will be held with the parents and/or guardians and the administration for the purpose of constructing a plan of action to eliminate tardiness.
- If a student is tardy 6 or more times in a 9 week period: A phone call will be placed to the parents and/or guardians by the administration, and a conference will be required for each additional tardy over five.
CHECK-OUT: Early check-out prevents your child from completing the instructional experience. For the safety of your child, photo identification must be presented at the time of check-out. Without proper authorization, students will be released only to individuals on the emergency card. Please note that check-outs will not be allowed after 2:40pm.
We understand that there are exceptional circumstances such as doctor or dentist appointments. If this situation should occur, please provide a doctor’s note so that the tardy can be marked “excused.”
The faculty, staff, and your child truly appreciate your time and efforts!
Thank you,
Mike Alford, Principal
