Louisiana Positive Behavior Support Initiative
School-Wide Positive Behavior Support
Positive Behavior Support is a collaborative, assessment-based approach to developing effective interventions for problem behavior. It emphasizes the use of proactive, educative, and reinforcement-based strategies to achieve meaningful and durable behavior and lifestyle outcomes. PBS aims to build effective environments in which positive behavior is more effective than problem behavior.
When PBS strategies are implemented school-wide, students with and without disabilities benefit by having an environment that is conducive to learning. All individuals (students, staff, teachers, parents) learn more about their own behavior, learn to work together, and support each other as a community of learners.
Abney Elementary will implement the PBS program school-wide. On-going training and monthly, team meetings will provide support and guidance for all members of the Abney learning community.

“Golden Bean” Whole Class Incentive
Growing a Positive Garden
Abney administrators, faculty, and staff members will randomly reward a class with a green bean token when observed displaying exceptionally, appropriate behavior. Emails or notes can be used by itinerant personnel to refer a class for a green bean reward.
Beans will be stored in a special container and can be traded in for special rewards as specific number goals are reached.
As the green beans accumulate, a class can earn the following rewards:
15 beans = (trade in for a blue) = Class Popsicle Party
30 beans = (trade in for a blue) = “Big” Cookie and Milk Party
50 beans = (trade for a Bronze bean) = Ice Cream Sundae Party
75 beans = (trade for a Silver bean) = Pizza Party
100 beans = (trade for a Gold bean) = Water Day (held in May)
